Tomatin 13yo single barrel

image

This is a bottle your own offering from Tomatin distillery, this particular single barrel was filled on the 29-3-2002 and is a first fill oloroso cask. This  sample was taken 25-9-15 so just over 13yo.. The strength is 57% ..

Nose..  Lovely sweet fruity scents, oranges, pears, apricot and possibly  a little pineapple in there too, some dried fruits, figs, dates and prunes, dried oranges and candied pear drops.. A little spice pops up in the form of ginger and cinnamon.

Palate..  For a first fill oloroso cask it has some lovely sweet notes, some really nice vanilla and toffe notes, almonds and some dark chocolate notes quickly develop into typical sherry notes of dates, figs and raisins, more dark flavours with a hint of coffee and ginger, a little oaky note is detectable in the background.

Finish.. This has a lovely dry spicy finish,  it is quite enjoyable.

Thoughts.. This is a lovely offering from Tomatin, I am a big fan of single barrel offerings at cask strength, and this is no exception, it is lovely and fresh and shows of the distillery very well.  It deserves a place on any whisky list, and brings something to the table, if you get the chance to bottle this yourself, don’t hesitate..
