Spirit of Yorkshire
Yorkshires first whisky distillery started to produce new make in 2016.. The distillery adds its name to the ever growing list of English whisky distilleries that are now starting to gather momentum and announce to the world that we English folk can also make great whisky.

Nestled in an industrial site at Hunmanby, near Filey on the English East coast this distillery prides itself on using local grown barley and being able to offer a local whisky with provenance and transparency. The barley is not only locally grown but is actually grown by the owners of the distillery and the water is obtained from the farm source too, so this is an in-house project from start to finish or as they like to quote “field to bottle” ..

Age.. Nas – 3/4 years max
Abv.. 46%
Cask.. Ex Bourbon – Finished in STR – Red Wine Barriques
Nose.. Summer fruits dominate along with chocolate, candied orange and a sprinkling of dates, raisins and subtle hints of plum. Delicate honey notes line up with vanilla, caramel and old hay.
Palate.. Vanilla ice cream and sticky toffee pudding come to mind with those candied oranges, coffee and blueberry muffins.
Finish.. Soft spices
Thoughts.. This expression interested me from the off, the aromas are soft but alluring, the palate is as expected after spending time getting to know this.. English whisky in general is still within its infancy but with the quality of product that is becoming available then the future is very promising..
