The Character of Islay Whisky Company
This is another name coming from the Atom Brands umbrella, more known for the incredible That Boutiquey Whisky Company this new sector is obviously going to be all about Islay ( well one would assume that )
Little is known about this new company but what has been said is the company will focus on the liquid and hopefully represent the characteristics of Islay spirit..
Aerolite Lyndsay 10 year old
For those wondering where the name comes from then this is actually an anagram for “ Ten year old whisky “
Distillery.. Unknown
Region.. Islay
Age.. 10 years
Abv.. 46%
Casks.. Predominantly Bourbon ( 70%) with Sherry casks ( 25% ) and a small amount of Mystery casks ( 5% )
Nose.. Instantly the peat rises and although it’s dominant it is in no way offensive, with time a little fruit arrives with fresh peeled apples, poached pear a little heather honey, salted peanuts, damp grass and damp ash..
Palate.. Smoke and peat lead into a little fresh ginger, Manuka honey brings in a sweetness along with an earthy note.. Chocolate, coffee and that ashy feel highlight the typical Islay feel..
Finish.. Smokey and drying
Thoughts.. This isn’t too bad you know.. Very typically Islay with that smokey ashy feel dominating while at the same time not overly complex nor offensive..
This is going to be one of those whiskies that you reach for on those cold winter nights when you want something simple and easy, something to offer those just beginning their journey into peated whiskies.
