Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8

Glendronach

They often say “there’s nowt more queer than folk “ and this is something that I always think when people decide to be so negative towards things, we all have different impressions, thoughts and opinions on everything life has to throw at us but when it comes to whisky and especially Glendronach whisky then I am one of those who will stand up and shout about all that is good and pure with the products.
The distillery like so many has a long and chequered history since it was originally founded by a consortium in 1826, the Distillery has stuck to the traditional techniques and is traditionally maturing the whisky predominantly in Sherry casks, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez are certainly the two styles that this distillery is famous for but there are a few Port pipes and the odd bourbon cask to be found…

Glendronach Cask Strength

Distillery.. Glendronach
Region.. Highlands
Age.. NAS
Abv.. 61%
Cask.. Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez
Nose.. As you approach the glass there is a real inviting aroma and full on onslaught of dried fruits, chocolate, fresh ground coffee beans, glacier cherries, damp leather and a soft struck match note that lurks in the background.

Palate.. Those dried fruits and chocolate come alive on the palate and dance around the mouth, spices transcend and alert the senses before a soft tobacco note mingles with a little sawdust, almonds and Bakewell tart, a sweetness arrives in the form of orange marmalade, plum pudding and toffee sauce..
Finish.. Spicy and fruity
Thoughts.. This whisky is a wonderful insight into this distillery and offers up the opportunity to try whisky in what I always think of as its purest form, cask strength, Non chill filtered and naturally coloured just as it should be..
When you decide to buy a bottle of whisky you are not only buying a liquid but also a part of history lost forever unless you allow products like this remind you, Whisky is not just a drink, it’s a way of life, it’s a period of time that has evolved such a simple spirit into something that is wonderfully unique.
Whiskies like this don’t need to be rushed, open the bottle, pour a dram and sit back and let the liquid speak to you ( no I’m not barking mad and I don’t always hear voices ) Whisky is a product that has the power to transport you into an alternative reality ( ok not literally) it’s not about volume, it’s about quality and in a world where most of us don’t get time to really sit down and unwind I always find that when you find a Distillery that produces a whisky that allows you to do just that then appreciate it, understand it, learn about it and let it take you to that quiet place..
One moment there’s a knock on the door, it’s those men in white coats..  Slainte..
This official sample was kindly sent by Glendronach for review purposes only.. These are my honest thoughts and ramblings..

A lovely review of the latest cask strength batch. I have to say personally speaking that I love these releases, and it will be one that I buy again.

Your descriptions can lead you to certain memories, and whiskies are a wonderful way to reconnect with a memory.

The nose can evoke feelings that bring comfort, joy even, and allow one to rest in that moment. The scent can give assurance as it gently fills the air, the palate can allow a smile to spread across your lips as you recall the moment you first tried it.

For me, it allows me time to escape (the real world) have a daydream and just smile…
