Glen Scotia
The Glen Scotia distillery can be found in the quieter region of Campbeltown which was once upon a time considered as the whisky capital of the world..
Founded back in 1832 by two families (Stewart and Galbraith) the distillery quietly produces some outstanding whiskies like the double cask and the outstanding 15 and 25 year old releases..
Once upon a time the area of Campbeltown boasted an impressive 34 distilleries at its height but today the area only has 3, Glen Scotia, Glengyle and Springbank..
Today the Distillery is owned by the Loch Lomond Group and has a capacity to produce 800,000 litres of alcohol per year from its one pair of stills, 9 stainless steel washbacks and a 2.8 ton cast iron mash tun..
The distillery produces both unpeated and peated whisky with peat levels going as high as 55ppm off the still.

Nose.. An initial burst of Vanilla, caramel and butterscotch soon leads you into candied orange, red apples and pear drop sweets.. A touch of chocolate and freshly ground coffee beans then go hand in hand with a charred oak and dry tobacco leaf note.
Palate.. Those sweet notes resonate through the palate with a delicious Caramel, vanilla mixture perfectly complimenting a soft smokey oak note and subtle spices.
Finish.. A lingering sweetness with oaky undertones..
Thoughts.. I like this, I like it a lot !!
Glen Scotia is one of those distilleries that is really intriguing me at the moment.. Brand Ambassador Ibon Mendiguren ( Dont call him Spanish.. He’s Basque and proud of it… ) introduced me to the range and this was certainly one of the ones that stood out for me.. Well this and the double cask, 15,18 and 25 not to mention a peated 10 year old ( so basically the whole core range ) that I subsequently then had to go out and buy the lot.. As you do!!!!
