Auchentoshan Distillery Cask #4447

The Auchentoshan distillery can be found nestled on the outskirts of Glasgow, at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills and in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge.

Officially founded in 1823, Auchentoshan which  is Gaelic for “ the corner of the field “ is one of the only distilleries in Scotland to practice tripple distillation. Found in the grounds is a small pond that can be found  at the front of the distillery as you drive in, this was created by a bomb that was dropped during the war and almost destroyed the distillery, thankfully they missed !!

The distillery has gained a reputation for its light flavours and floral aromas along with some very good single casks and as one of my favourite distilleries I have had the pleasure of quite a few very good expressions.

The bottle your own series seem to be concentrating on the Oloroso and Px sherry as well as the wine matured stocks that are sleeping within the warehouses and although I find this a shame as the distillery does have some absolutely stunning bourbon matured whisky I can’t complain as I absolutely love the big sherried bottles I’ve had from them.

Auchentoshan Distillery Exclusive

Distillery.. Auchentoshan

Region.. Lowlands

Distilled.. 9-12-09

Bottled.. 1-8-18

Abv.. 59.9%

Cask.. First fill Oloroso butt #4447

This is Naturally Coloured , NCF and is part of the Bottle your own experience

Nose.. Dates, raisins, plums, figs, Black Forest gateau and walnuts rise to the top with cherries, chocolate and roasted almonds inviting themselves to the party along with candied orange, toffee and cofffee aromas. Did I mention the nuts ..

Palate..  Quite drying at first with those dried fruits dominating, old leather notes, tobacco leaf and a subtle earthy note round this delicious dram off..

Finish.. Drying with a lingering spiciness..

Thoughts.. Bloody delicious.. This is a 9 year old first fill Oloroso that is just right ! Although it does not show a great deal of the  delicate side to Auchentoshan this certainly did not want any longer in the cask, this is a delicious sherried whisky although I’m sure it will be over sherried for some, but not me !

This single cask #4447 from the bottle your own series is a real sherry bomb that once opened just takes you into that dream filled world where an old leather armchair, good friends and someone smoking a cigar is in order..

After toying with the idea of trying something other than the supermarket shelf bottles I find this. It is like someone is personally guiding you through a glass of it. Should I ever visit Scotland I will have a look at it. Great stuff!!

    Hi Andy..
There will be more single casks releases but obviously once this cask is empty then it can never be repeated 👍

You have been so fortunate to get hold of these bottles.
Won’t there be further releases from the distillery?

    Hi Clive..
The Bottle your own at Auchentoshan are normally £80 for the 70cl bottle and £30 for the 20cl bottle.. Hope this helps 👍

Another tantalising description made by you !
What cost do these bottles command please as I would very much like to do a few visits and possibly pick up a few of these unique bottles as I imagine it can be quite fun to do.
