Another new expression to come from the chaps at Claxton’s for 2017 is this single cask offering from Ledaig.. At 9 years of age and coming from a single hogsheads I’m expecting to find all the things that are good about the Tobermory distillery..
Bottled in the usual Claxton style of NO Colour and NCF, this comes from a single cask and is bottled at a cask strength of 53.3% aabv ..
Nose.. Burnt straw with a slightly green dampness, cooked apples, lemon peel along with fresh orange notes.. The smoky earth note is ever present with hints of fresh sea spray..
Palate.. Sweet peat instantly covers the tongue along with delicate fruity notes and burnt sugar all coated in that smokey overcoat.. A little toffee and wood spices get a moment to shine..
Finish.. Smokey all the way.
Thoughts.. A very pleasant Ledaig, if you like your Ledaig then you can’t help but love this one ! The smoke is quite bold in this one and really does dominate the proceedings, from the very first sip you get this lovely warming feeling as the liquid slips down.. Well worth a visit ( or two)
Thanks to Adrian from Claxton’s for the official Sample.
I tried this bottle at tasting near my hometown and very impressed indeed.

It’s hard to find a really good ledaig these days, but you make this sound sound like this is worth a punt, I know you know what you’re talking about! Thanks
