The latest new release from Claxton’s in 2017 is this 19yo single cask from Benrinnes, distilled on the 15-8-97 and bottled in 2017 from a single hogsheads at a strength of 51.5% abv, this bottle carries on the tradition of the company with a fully natural product.. No colour is added so the light straw tinge is exactly what you would expect to find..
Nose.. Soft spices mix with freshly cooked fruit, a touch of oak and a digestive biscuit on the side.. There is quite a fresh scent to this after a while, with lots of apple peel, ripe pear and a hint of citrus peel, fresh heather honey with vanilla essence, a dash of chocolate grinds..
Palate.. Ok.. It’s a prickly little thing, lots of spicy notes instantly flood the sensations along with oak and a citrus peel bitterness, once it calms down a little those fruity notes return, apple pie and vanilla custard with a more restrained cinnamon note, sugared almonds along with a touch of caramel.
Finish.. It’s a little firecracker.. oak and spice all the way.
Thoughts.. Like I said above this is a little firecracker, full of spicy, oaky notes with a refreshing fruity side, I actually added a little water to this one and yes it did tame down slightly and became a little more fruity but I preferred the ” firecracker ” untamed side.. There won’t be any cobwebs left after sipping this one !!
