BENRIACH 22yo MOSCATEL.

Last year I was extremly lucky to have the opertunity to visit and look round the Benriach distillery. At the time the company had just been bought out by Brown – Foreman and speculation was rife with what might or might not happen..  Now over the last few days the company has just announced the appointment of Rachael Barrie as ” whisky maker” for BenRiach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh distilleries, and that just shows they are intent on growing the brand even more..

Here comes my admittance,   I mislaid this sample when sent ( I think I need  to tidy my room ) but it’s better late than never.. This expression has been matured in traditional American oak casks and then received a finishing period in Portuguese MOSCATEL wine casks..

Bottled at 46% abv this is NCFand has no added  colour..This is priced at around £148..

Nose..  Very fruity and full of lovely sweet notes..  There are hints of dark fruits, summer berries, pears, plums and figs, fresh grape, apple peel and freshly squeezed orange. Rich honey and and gentle spices give this a lovely balance..

Palate.. Again full of fruit and succulent flavours..  The fresh fruit really mixes well with those dried fruits and delivers a subtly sweet taste.. Spices start to shine through with a touch of oak, subtle ginger and cinnamon compliment a rather delicate tobacco note,  chocolate orange  and ground coffee bring this list to an end..

Finish.. Lingering, spicy and seductive.

Thoughts.. This is a great release and anyone who buys this will not be disappointed… The nose is just a seductive beast and the palate is one that just draws you in for another taste.. This is not a shy whisky and does not need long to open and share the delights it has.. A great well balanced, complex whisky to sip and savour..

Thanks go out to the people at  BenRiach for the official sample..

Another very interesting review, I love the way you make it jump of the page and give us the impression we are actually drinking these ourselves. Keep it up.
