What more can I say about Glendronach that has not been said in previous reviews other than I’m so looking forward to this one ! This 1993 is the first Oloroso sherry cask in this batch 14 release so far and having just poured it I can already smell the wonderful aromas associated with top notch Oloroso matured whisky..
This is a 23 yo release distilled January 1993 and left to mature in cask #42 ( Oloroso ) before bottling in September 2016, this has been bottled at 58.6% abv and is NCF and Natural colour..
Nose.. mmmmm…This has that seductive kind of nose, dates, raisins and figs pull you in before cinnamon and subtle vanilla along with dark chocolate, coffee and candied orange just gently kiss and caress your senses.. A soft whisper of tobacco, almonds along with molasses make you dream of somewhere far far away..
Palate.. Starts of chunky.. Lots of wood and spice with oodles of dried fruit and monkey nuts.. Vanilla along with toffee and rich orange infused chocolate take control while subtle notes of tobacco, coffee and marzipan tickle the throat on the way down..
Finish.. lingering sherry and oak.. Quite delicious.
Thoughts.. A lot of sherry matured whisky I’ve had the pleasure of tasting either have great aromas or just the most succulent flavours and then you get those that just have it all.. This one is again the latter, the nose draws you in like a seductive temptress and the palate just delivers the killer blow. It’s not as thick on the nose as those big PX expressions but it has that little something that just screams quality..
My gratitude goes out to Glendronach for the official sample..
I’m very happy to read this. Glendronach is one of my favourite whiskies.
