Pure Scot heralds the long awaited return of whisky from the Bladnoch distillery.

As many malt fans know Bladnoch distillery lies in the lowlands region of Scotland, recently though the distillery fell silent once again, for several months the future of the distillery was in doubt but luckily an Australian business man David Prior bought the distillery and resurrected it.

With its  rich history dating back to 1817, Bladnoch Distillery is one of the oldest Scotch Whisky producers in lowlands of Scotland, and the most Southerly.

With the unwavering guidance of celebrated master distiller and blender Ian Macmillan, and inspired by the many flavours of lowland style whiskies, we can discover Single Malts that honour Bladnoch’s rural roots.

For the distillery that celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2017, the Bladnoch story is only just beginning.

Now that the distillery is safe again the owners have released a blended whisky named “Pure Scot ” this is primarily for the Australian market but can be bought from the distillery shop.

This is what has been said by the distillery about this release.. “A  contemporary Blended Scotch Whisky – Pure Scot – is the new drink for the modern whisky consumer. Launching in Melbourne at the end of 2015 ahead of its global rollout, Pure Scot is the first Australian- owned whisky distilled traditionally in the southern Lowlands of Scotland. Pure Scot Blended Scotch Whisky is the perfect balance of provenance and progression. Contemporary and fresh – combining unique Bladnoch Single Malt, robust island malts, aged Speyside and Highland malts and select grain whiskies. The expertise and passion of Pure Scot’s master distiller Ian Macmillan is reflected in every drop – delivering a crisp, smooth, authentic taste – adaptable to many drinks and occasions. Evoking 200 years of heritage, Bladnoch Distillery – home to Pure Scot – has resided on the Bladnoch River since 1817. Nose..  First impression is quite a spicy nose, lots of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg, there are some dried fruits and lots of sweetness, vanilla, caramel and toffee notes galore.

 

Palate.. The spicy kick carries on from the nose, lots of prickly heat and lovely sweetness, natural vanilla and toffee notes  with some poached pear and candied orange, lots of citrus peels and dark chocolate notes.

 

Finish.. A medium finish with a spicy, oaky kick.

 

Thoughts.. This is a well balanced blend, lots of interesting flavours and aromas. Bottled at 40% it still packs a punch, I do hope they release it over here, it will be welcome on my shelf..
