KING ALEXANDER III

I first tried this whisky from Dalmore about a year ago, I wrote down some notes but who knows where they went, I think the Angels stole them along with the rest of that bottle..  So I came across a couple of samples I had at the back of my cupboard and just had to do a review..

Here is what they have to say about it “To celebrate the pioneering and innovative values of the Mackenzie Clan, our Master Distiller has painstakingly created the only single malt in the world to unite a unique six cask finish for one outstanding achievement. Spirits matured in ex-bourbon casks, Matusalem oloroso sherry butts, Madeira barrels, Marsala casks, Port pipes and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques are combined in perfect harmony to create a uniquely complex, yet smooth single malt. This is the embodiment of brave creativity and a lifetime’s experience”.

Bottled at 40%abv.. (Slightly  dissapointed)

Nose… There is certainly a lot going on here,  loads of  big fruity notes like orange, ripe pear, and stewed apples mixed with some dates and sultanas, lots of vanilla, maple syrup and fudge aromas popping up on the back of chocolate and coffee notes.

Palate…  More spicy than the nose suggested, cinnamon and pepper hit straight away, candied oranges and lemmon peel mix easily with tropical fruit and freshly picked berries.  Dark syrup and butterscotch bring a sweet note to the party while vanilla and oak arrive just in time to be noticed..

Finish… Spicy with oaky notes..

Thoughts… This is quite a complex whisky, lots of big flavours trying to come out all at once, once it has settled down a little it does become very good, the sweet notes are so Devine along with the taste of dried fruits.  The only real fault I can say about this is,  for a bottle approaching £130,  not entry level stuff, why can’t we have a little more abv.. I’m sure at 46% this would be something else..

Nice read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing some research on that. And he just bought me lunch because I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
