I have the pleasure of reviewing the Glenfarclas 25yo. A well aged speyside malt totally matured in sherry butts, bottled at 43%..
Nose.. This has a nose that needs a little time to open up fully. Once open you get full on rich fruit cake, orange marmalade, fresh orange peel, a hint of liquorice and rich dark coffee, chocolate notes with a delicate oak note in the background.
Palate.. Delicious…. The liquid just coats your mouth with sensation after sensation of creamy rich flavours. Dried fruits, burnt orange peel and candied fruits take turns in tantalising your tongue before dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee notes take over, a little nutty note shows up on the back of a subtle spicy kick..
Finish.. A lovely lingering sweet finish is the perfect ending to a big, bold sherry bomb.
Thoughts.. This is a lovely big, bold, complex sherried whisky, a great nose, good mouth feel and very satisfying. Is this a perfect after dinner dram ? Possibly.. Glenfarclas just seems to get better with age.. Definitely a dram to savour.
This whisky is awesome. Big flavours and good price. Slainte joel
