Glenfarclas is well known for the big bold sherried whisky it produces. The speyside distillery was purchased in 1865 by John Grant and to this day it is still owned by the Grant family.. Six generations on they still produce the whisky in the time honoured way.. Today I am reviewing the 21yo, part of the core range it is bottled at 43% and is who let matured in sherry casks..
Nose.. The nose starts off sweet before wave after wave of figs, dates, burnt oranges and some sugared almonds do battle with toffee and vanilla. A little oak in the background intrigues the senses before more subtle spicy citrus notes take over..
Palate.. A thick syrupy texture rolls over your tounge, dried fruits and citrus notes are dominant, sweetness comes through in the form of toffee and vanilla, apple and blackberry pie along with apricot and a dark chocolate note popping in..
Finish.. Medium-long, spicy with a sweet, tangy twist..
Thoughts.. Another solid addition to the Glenfarclas range, it is hard to say anything bad about this range, not overly packaged, well priced and excellent whisky..
