Balblair 1990, 2nd release

The balblair distillery release their whisky under the year vintage system instead of an age statement, this offering is from 1990 and is the 2nd release of this vintage. It has spent around 21 years maturing in bourbon casks before spending 2 more years in oloroso sherry butts, it is bottled at 46%, a very good strength in my opinion, and is non chill filtered.

Nose.. Once it opens up it delivers a lovely nose, full of vanilla, honey, toffee and a beautiful aroma of dried fruits.

Palate.. This has a lovely citrus kick at first, oranges and a little cherry too, spices flood over your senses, cinnamon, ginger, and a little pepper, a little oaky burst shows up with a coffee finish.

Finish.. It’s no quick finish, the fruit and spices hang around before giving way to a lovely drying feeling..

Thoughts.. I do like balblair whisky, it’s always fresh and fruity, they are doing something right, this distillery can only get bigger and better.

This 1990 is probably my favourite of all vintages from balblair.

I’m really enjoying the theme of this site.

It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and appearance.
I must say you have done a excellent job with this.
Also, the blog loads super quick for me. Great review too.

    Outstanding Blog!
